Friendship Missionary Baptist Church was founded on Nov. 2, 1962 by believers who met at the home of Rev. R.L. Head.
Ministers present and in charge of this meeting were, Rev. J.W. Washington, Rev. Jessie Walker and Rev. S.O.J. Evans, 35 members were also present.
At this initial meeting it was decided that the church was to be named “Friendship Missionary Baptist Church” and that Reverend R.L. Head would be Pastor. Rev. R.L. Head served as Pastor until 1973.
In 1963 the Lord blessed our congregation and relocated us to worship at our current location, 912 East Cota Street.
Subsequently, the Lord allowed us to acquire this property to act as a permanent place of serving Him and our community.
At that time the Chairman of the Deacon Board was Napoleon Johnson and the first minutes were taken by our newly elected Church Clerk, Sister Dorothy McHaskell.
In 1966 Rev. J.B. Ficklin, a charter member, was called to Pastor Greater Hope Missionary Baptist Church and is still faithfully serving the Greater Hope family.
